Thomas Fric is Chief Technology Officer for a Sarbanes Oxley consulting firm that focuses on SOX consulting for middle market, publicly traded companies. The firm employs an 'officeless' infrastructure for its consultants who are generally staffed on multiple engagements in locations across the United States.
Over a 24-month period, the company grew from 6 to over 200 consultants, each on the road at least 80 percent of the time, with a laptop that held invaluable client documents. Simply supplying, supporting and troubleshooting this mobile staff is a daunting task for even a full IT department, much less one man.
It quickly became clear that securely backing up the consultants' data was of paramount importance; however, because of travel schedules and client demands, backing up to the company servers over the LAN or even via VPN was not practical. After extensive testing and shopping, Fric chose DocuSync™ to provide secure online data backup for all the company's consultants. Every laptop runs the DocuSync™ Desktop Manager and, upon startup, automatically backs up all of the user's documents via a secure internet connection. Because the DocuSync™ Desktop Manager allows for incremental backups, these daily backups cause no interruption and are done quickly in the background without taxing the PC's resources or bandwidth. On many occasions a consultant's laptop was damaged or stolen but they were simply shipped a new machine. Upon receipt, the consultant simply selected the Restore function on the Desktop Manager and their files and folders were automatically placed right back in their original locations.
In addition, the consultants found that DocuSync's collaboration tools made their jobs much more efficient. Sharing password-protected folders allowed them to create workspaces where clients could securely upload, download and share documentation. Further, much of the data on which they worked was often too large to be e-mailed; DocuSync's Sharing capabilities resolved this problem.
"DocuSync's superb file storing, sharing, and management capabilities, as well as its world-class security, gave me more control over managing and supporting the technology requirements of our mobile workforce. Without DocuSync, we could have lost critical client data --- and clients --- many times over," said Fric.
